Forgiveness - The Account is Settled

Many years ago before the National Health Service was established when medical services of a doctor had to be paid for by the patient, a Scottish doctor died after many years of faithful service to his patents.   His wife who did not share her husbands values, began to put all of his affairs
in order and she came across his accounts book.
She noticed that in many of the accounts were
the words, "Forgiven, too poor to pay" written in
red ink.  Though it was obvious that her husband
had canceled these debts, she decided to see
these patients and seek payment.  The cases
eventually went to court as she was determined
that these accounts must be paid.  The judge
asked the doctors wife, "Is this your husband's handwriting in the red ink?"  She answered that yes, it was her husbands handwriting.  The judge then ruled "There is no court in the land that can obtain money where it has been written that the account is 'forgiven'."  Likewise, when the Lord Jesus forgives sins as He did for the woman who had been found committing adultery (John 8:3-11), those sins are gone, the debt is fully paid and heaven's righteous court is completely satisfied that the account is settled.  Our debt of sin does not require double payment, first by the Saviour, then by ourselves.  Jesus paid the debt in full and that makes it final!  (Hebrews 10:17,18)
